Zendaya’s style had humble beginnings, but she says the important part was feeling “cool” and still believes that’s when she knows she’s doing the right thing.

“Keep doing what you’re doing. When I was 14 and at my first movie premiere, my outfit was a bunch of stuff that I had from Target. And I thought I was fly. I felt cool. To this day, I think that’s really all that matters. Then you know you’re doing the right thing.”

— Zendaya reveals what she would tell her younger self about her then-style in an InStyle Q&A with editor-in-chief Laura Brown, titled “Zendaya Is Entering Her Boss Phase.” The Euphoria actor covers the glossie’s “Best Dressed” issue for November 2021, so when she says feeling “cool” in your look is all that matters, she knows what she’s talking about. Zendaya’s style is a collaboration with celebrity stylist Law Roach, but if they had the opportunity, there’s one fashion icon’s closet they’d love to raid:

“Cher. All that custom Bob Mackie that she owned, I want all of that. Cher, if you ever want to style me, Law [Roach] and I would love it.”
