I can’t remember a time when overalls weren’t a part of my sartorial vibe, but it wasn’t until 2020 that I learned October 15th is Overalls Day, and the premier brand for all things overalls, OshKosh B’gosh, is celebrating by giving back to its customers and charity.
A story my mom loves to tell is her returning home after a day of clothes shopping and feeling proud of herself for securing deals on a new wardrobe for 4-year-old me. When I saw the lavender corduroy pair of OshKosh overalls, I infamously exasperated, “Obenwalls, obenwalls, all the time obenwalls! What do you think, I a farmer?” You see, I was the kid in daycare who was always going to get dirty and had no problem figuring out how to swing from a light fixture, so my mom opted for garments that would stand up to wear and tear, wouldn’t leave me exposed as I went flying across a room, and allowed me to dress myself without an adult’s help. Plus, she says I looked very cute in my OshKosh. Fast forward to being a teen and I “upgraded” my OshKosh to Bill Blass overalls (bought from Filene’s Basement) and later Guess ones (also bought at Filene's). By that time, I understood the appeal of an all-in-one garment that can pull a whole look together, regardless of how lazy teen me was feeling. Today, overalls are still a major part of my wardrobe. They’re essentially a jumpsuit that doesn’t leave me nearly nude while trying to use a public restroom. I also like the juxtaposition of casual overalls styled with more formal wear like a blazer and high heels. In addition, overalls are perfect for the new normal 2020 has ushered in because the pockets allow you to hold a lot of essentials on your person without having to carry a purse or bag that's difficult to disinfect.
OshKosh B’gosh has enjoyed 125 years of outfitting children, style geeks like me, and probably farmers. This year, the brand is celebrating Overalls Day with some unique offerings, including ways for customers to earn C-A-S-H.
From now through tomorrow:
- Triple Points: OshKosh shoppers will receive triple points on purchases of overalls.
- Giving Back: Do something charitable by simply showing OshKosh your overalls photos. On October 15th, the brand will donate $25 for every overall photo shared using the hashtag #OverallsDay to DonorsChoose, up to $50,000. DonorsChoose's mission is: "We make it easy for anyone to help a teacher in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education," according to its site.
- Prizes: Through an Instagram sweepstakes on October 15th, OshKosh will be giving away 125 x $125 gift cards. There will be 25 winners each hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST.
If you need some style inspiration for yourself or your tot, OshKosh B’gosh has a bevy of overalls from floral to denim to railroad-striped jumpers. Be sure to check out the Limited Edition Capsule Collection featuring retro overalls styles for adults. I’m particularly partial to the Slim Fit Denim Overalls ($65, above) for adults because the slim silhouette elevates the design, the Heart Pocket Overalls ($24, above) for toddler girls are absolutely adorable, and the Convertible Canvas Overalls ($25.20, above) in khaki with a light blue plaid lining will set up any baby boy for a lifetime of style.
