Earlier this year, Disney Dreamers Academy once again opened its doors to a new group of 100 high school students from across the United States, offering an extraordinary four-day immersive event designed to inspire, empower, and ignite the dreams of young visionaries. Occurring yearly at Walt Disney World Resort in Central Florida, this transformative experience combines immersive career workshops, mentorship opportunities, and inspiring keynote speeches to equip students with the tools they need to turn their dreams into reality.
A platform for dreams
Disney Dreamers Academy, now in its 17th year, is a life-changing program whose judges selects students based on their creativity, ambition, and leadership potential. The chosen “Dreamers” participate in a series of hands-on workshops and seminars, covering a wide range of career paths from entertainment and business to medicine, science and space exploration. The goal is to inspire these young minds to dream big and provide them with the skills and confidence to achieve those dreams.
Daymond John and Te’Lario Watkins II: A Disney Magic moment
One of the most unforgettable moments of the the event was a surprise that occurred during a media scrum focusing on Te’Lario Watkins II. While answering a question from a reporter, Daymond John unexpected appeared and announced that Te’Lario Watkins II…. Daymond John, the renowned entrepreneur, investor, and star of ABC’s Shark Tank, shared his remarkable journey from the founder of the iconic fashion brand FUBU to a successful business mogul. His story of perseverance, innovation, and hard work deeply resonated with the Dreamers, offering them valuable insights into turning obstacles into opportunities.
At just 15 years old, Te’Lario Watkins II is already a seasoned entrepreneur and motivational speaker. He started his own business, Tiger Mushroom Farms, when he was 7 years old, and he has since been recognized nationally for his achievements. His session focused on entrepreneurship and the importance of following one’s passions, no matterhow young you are. Te’Lario’s infectious enthusiasm and practical advice inspired the Dreamers to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations.
Dr. Johnnetta Cole: Words of wisdom
Dr. Johnnetta Cole, the distinguished educator and former president of Spelman College, brought her wealth of knowledge and experience to the Disney Dreamers Academy. As a pioneering figure in education who is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion, Dr. Cole delivered a speech was both inspirational and thought-provoking.
Dr. Cole spoke about the importance of education, leadership, and the impact of cultural heritage. Her words resonated deeply with each of the Dreamers, as she emphasized the value of hard work, resilience, and the power of community. Dr. Cole’s wisdom and insights provided the Dreamers with a broader perspective on their roles as future leaders, encouraging them to embrace their identities and use their talents to make a positive difference in the world.
Dara Renee: Disney Dreamers Academy DREAMbassador
As a talented actress best known for her role as Kourtney in Disney’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and as Uliana in the Disney+ original film, Descendants: The Rise of Red, Dara Renee served as the DREAMbassador of Disney Dreamers Academy 2024. Throughout the event, Dara shared stories of her journey in the entertainment industry, highlighting the importance of resilience, self-belief, and hard work while pursuing a career in the arts. Her engaging personality and heartfelt stories captivated the Dreamers, encouraging them to embrace their talents and never give up on their dreams.
Beyond the sessions
In addition to the inspiring sessions and workshops, Disney Dreamers experienced the vast offerings of Walt Disney World. In addition to enjoying the thrilling parks, they experienced exclusive behind-the-scenes tours, where they could see firsthand how Disney creates its legendary experiences and meet with Disney cast members who work in various fields.
