In case you need help planning your Emmys watch party, beloved designer to the stars Christian Siriano has some tips and recipes for perfect wine pairings below. Having dressed Billy Porter, Niecy Nash, Chrissy Metz, Nicole Byer, Leslie Jones, and Regina King, Siriano knows how to make awards season memorable.

Christian Siriano's Emmy Party Styling Tips:

  • Siriano's favorite types of bites are those you can pick up and walk around with – fancy finger food! His favorites are sliders, cheese boards, crostinis, and chocolate dipped strawberries (see recipes and wine pairings below). A little savory and a little sweet!
  • After wine, the most important table decoration is fresh flowers. Siriano suggests going to your favorite local flower shop and asking for flowers that are in season. He prefers bright colors because it brightens the room and the mood. Have a few different sized vases at the ready to mix different colors and sizes on your table. Bonus – you get to enjoy them for the week after the party!
  • Make wine the star by pairing your menu with the wines you’re serving. Include a few white wine dishes and a few reds, to keep people trying the full menu and sampling your selections for the night. Siriano's go-to white is Sterling Vineyards Vintner’s Collection Chardonnay. It is crisp, light and the perfect aperitif to make your guests comfortable and hungry. For red, it’s Sterling Vineyards Vintner’s Collection Cabernet Sauvignon, a perfect pair for meat and chocolate-based desserts.
  • When Siriano hosts a party, whether it’s for 5 or 50, his goal is to make it feel like an occasion. He keeps an array of wooden and ceramic platters in multiple sizes, to add depth and variety to his tablescapes. Even if you’re serving finger foods, it is essential to have plates and cutlery to elevate the party and to make your guests feel special.
  • Ice breaker: puppies! There is nothing better than a puppy to break the ice with new friends and old. Siriano's pup, Poppy, is at all of his parties and even gets a seat at the table! Depending on the dress code, Poppy loves to sport a bow for an extra pop of color!

  • Mini brioche rolls, halved and toasted
  • 1 lb beef (80/20 or 85/15 recommended for flavorful, juicy sliders)
  • 1 sweet onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 small head of cabbage - cored and sliced very thinly
  • ½ small red pepper or carrot sliced thinly and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt or to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper or to taste

Cabernet reduction sauce:

  • 1 sweet onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • ½ cup Sterling Vineyards Vintner’s Collection Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt or to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper or to taste
  • 1 tsp cornstarch, combined with one tsp water to create a slurry

  • Mix mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, sea salt and black pepper in a small bowl, blend the ingredients completely. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes so sugar fully dissolves, then remix the ingredients.
  • Mix together cabbage and red pepper, then add in coleslaw dressing and mix well to make sure all the cabbage and red peppers are thoroughly coated.
  • Refrigerate until ready to use.

Cabernet reduction sauce:

  • Over medium/low heat, saute onions and garlic in olive oil for several minutes until onions are translucent and mixture is very fragrant.
  • Add water, bouillon cube, red wine, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 mintues.
  • Remove pan from heat and strain out onions and garlic, returning sauce to the pan and back onto the medium/low heat.
  • Slowly pour in dissolved cornstarch, stirring constantly. Simmer for at least an additional 5 minutes until reduced by half, stirring to break up any clumps. Remove from heat.

Slider patties:

  • Sautee the onions in olive oil until translucent and set aside.
  • Gently combine ground beef, egg, onions, salt and pepper, and form into golf-ball sized rounds. Do not over-work the beef; patties should be lightly mixed and formed to keep moist and avoid becoming tough.
  • Heat a cast iron skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Place patties on skillet in batches and press down until about ½ inch thick. Let cook un-disturbed for 1-3 minutes per side, until slightly charred on the outside and inside is a medium to medium-well.

Build your sandwich:

  • Place cole slaw on the bottom of the bun.
