Warner Bros. has released a new movie poster for writer-director Christopher Nolan’s TENET, which stars John David Washington as The Protagonist.

The official synopsis of the original sci-fi action flick is: “Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, The Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real-time. Not time travel. Inversion.”

That summary doesn’t really say much about what to expect from TENET. If you’re getting Inception vibes, then you’re not alone. There’s a fan theory that TENET is a sequel to Inception, which was also produced by Warner Bros. If the word “inversion” is also confusing to you, fans have surmised from the film trailer that “time inversion” is the ability to move people and objects forwards and backwards in time, while their surroundings remain as they were.

It can be enjoyable to watch a movie that doesn’t spell out in its trailer and synopsis exactly what you should expect. Discussing theories with friends and viewing think-piece videos on YouTube extends the entertainment beyond the two hours and 31 minutes of runtime.

TENET also stars Michael Caine, Robert Pattinson, and Clémence Poésy. It will hit theaters on August 12, 2020.

Will you see TENET in theaters or wait to stream it at home?
