— Andra Day accepts the On Her Shoulders Preservation Award during the Black Women Film Network (BWFN) virtual summit. The actor/singer made her film debut portraying Billie Holiday in The United States vs. Billie Holiday, which also stars Trevante Rhodes and Garrett Hedlund. The Hulu film follows Holiday’s career as the Federal Department of Narcotics targets her with an undercover sting operation led by Black Federal Agent Jimmy Fletcher, with whom she had a tumultuous affair. In addition to the BWFN award, Day won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama for her performance. She was also nominated for the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Actress, along with Viola Davis for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Zendaya for Malcolm & Marie, Sidney Flanigan for Never Rarely Sometimes Always, Vanessa Kirby for Pieces of a Woman, Frances McDormand for Nomadland, and winner Carey Mulligan for Promising Young Woman. For the virtual Critics’ Choice Awards ceremony, Day wore Chopard jewels and a Prada blue and green tie-dye printed chiffon jumpsuit with black satin crystal sandals.
