Nothing Can Stop Us” was the theme for the event that premiered on BET on Saturday, Feb. 6, and had an encore Sunday morning, ahead of Super Bowl LV. Pastor Todd opened the program with a prayer. Throughout the celebration, there were spirit-moving performances from Erica Campbell and The NFL Players Choir; Voices of Fire presented by Pharrell Williams, PJ Morton with Zacardi Cortez & Darrell Walls; Koryn Hawthorne; and Gospel pioneer John P. Kee featuring Kierra Sheard.

In addition to worship through music, the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration honored Watson for his philanthropic commitment to families and young people in underserved communities. Celebrated NFL legend Warrick Dunn, who played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons, presented Watson with the Faith in Action Award. Since Watson is the son of a cancer survivor and one of the youngest philanthropists in the NFL, the American Cancer Society collaborated with the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration to draw attention to the barriers that block the Black community from seeking treatment for cancer and prevention methods. Viewers were encouraged to donate $10 to the American Cancer Society by texting HOPE to 20222.

“This is one of my favorite awards that I’ve been able to receive in my lifetime,” said Watson while accepting the Faith in Action Award. “My mom, she’ll definitely enjoy it because this is what we live about. This is what she raised all her kids on, having that faith in action, and standing tall on what we believe in, and helping people around in the community.”

Tom Brady made a special appearance during the celebration before the big game that he and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would go on to win. In addition, Desean Jackson (Philadelphia Eagles), Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys), Jacoby Brisett (Indianapolis Colts), Teddy Bridgewater (Carolina Panthers), Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens), Odell Beckham Jr. (Cleveland Browns) and Cris Carter (Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins) were part of the celebration that brought the faithful and football fans together.
