“Too long, the definition of beauty has been too narrow, and let’s face it, unreal,” says Shonda Rhimes in a promotional video for Dove‘s new production company, Real Beauty Productions.
Rhimes is heading Real Beauty Productions as creative director. The mission of the new collaborative content studio is to showcase real women’s stories in media and culture, and to be more inclusive and represent more diverse beauty.
“Sixty-nine percent of women agree that they don’t see themselves reflected in advertisements, movies, television — and Real Beauty Productions will change that,” according to a press release. Dove is inviting women to share their stories at DoveRealBeauty.com, and some of these real women stories will inspire Real Beauty Productions’ first films. That means these storytellers will work closely with Rhimes on set to bring these films to fruition.
It’s time all women and girls see their #RealBeauty reflected in media and culture.
