August Wilson‘s Broadway classic Fences will hit the big screen on Christmas Day of this year. Before then, we’re giving you a peek at the production about a Black father who struggles with “race relations in the United States while trying to raise his family in the 1950s and coming to term with the events of his life.”
Fences stars Denzel Washington as Troy Maxson, the role James Earl Jones made famous when the play initially hit the Great White Way. Viola Davis (Rose Maxson), Mykelti Williamson (Gabriel), and Russell Hornsby (Lyons) also star in the highly-anticipated movie.
Both Davis and Washington appeared in the same roles during the 2010 Broadway revival, which earned them Tony Awards in 2010. Several other cast members from the revival will reprise their roles in the film adaptation of Fences.
Washington also directed the film and produced it along with Todd Black and Scott Rudin. Molly Allen, Eli Bush, Jason Cloth, Aaron L. Gilbert, Charles King, and Kim Roth executive produced the film.
