Controversial French comedian Dieudonne M’bala M’bala has been arrested for making a comment on Facebook that referenced the Charlie Hebdo murders and Amedy Coulibaly, who assisted in killing 4 people at a kosher grocery store in Paris days later. Authorities deem his comment as “inciting terrorism.” He could face up to 7 years in prison for the offense.
M’bala M’bala posted a statement on his Facebook page that French officials are calling an “apology for terrorism.”
“Let me say that this evening, as far as I am concerned, I feel I am Charlie Coulibaly,” M’bala M’bala wrote, referring to both Charlie Hebdo and the grocery store terrorists.
The 48-year-old comedian is one of 54 people who French authorities have taken into custody for making comments that seemingly support terrorism. After the shootings, France lowered its tolerance on potentially threatening actions or statements.
