Damiyah Telemaque-Nelson, nicknamed Miyah, is a Washington native battling Burkitt’s lymphoma, a cancer affecting the lymphatic system. After Washington Wizard point guard John Wall met the precious 8-year-old via Make A Wish Foundation, Miyah told him about her wish to get a pink wig from rap superstar Nicki Minaj, Wall reached out to Nicki via Instagram, hashtagging his picture #HelpNickiMeetMiyah. Miyah met the basketball star at the Verizon Center, where together they filmed a video request for Minaj.
“I knew [Nicki] had a caring heart,” Wall told The Washington Post. “And when she had an opportunity to see it or read about it I knew she’d reach out as soon as she could.” He continued, saying “I just thank my fans, everybody who retweeted it and reposted it, to give me the opportunity to make this girl’s wish come true. And we’ll try to make it happen.â€
After less than a month, Wall organized a meeting with Nicki which allowed Miyah’s mom, Kadisha Telemaque, to take a train trip to New York.
Upon meeting Miyah, Nicki told her that she was beautiful with or without the pink wig she gifted her, wrapped delicately with ribbons. Â View more snaps of the wish-granted below!
