Although the remake for the 1982 hit Annie doesn’t invade theaters until Christmas day 2014, the trailer for the long awaited remake has been released.
Starring Hollywood’s finest, Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz and break out child star Quvenzhané Wallis, the trailer looks similar to the original. From the official synopsis, “Stacks believes he’s her guardian angel, but Annie’s self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it’s the other way around.” Foxx plays Will Stacks, the wealthy, hard nosed New York political candidate who runs into the optimistic orphan on the street before taking her in for his own political gain. Diaz plays the bitter, mean mugging Ms. Hannigan, who douses foster children with a spray bottle.
News of the modernized remake first caught wind in 2011, where film producers Will and Jada’s daughter Willow Smith was slated to play the role of Annie. A representative from the Smiths’ production company, Overbrook Entertainment revealed in a statement last year: “Willow was nine years old when we started developing this project, and has since grown out of the role.”
