Along with performing his massive catalog of hits, Kanye West invited Jesus to join the theatrics during his first stop on the Yeezus Tour. An actor dressed as Jesus Christ walked onto stage with female background dancers to the tune of a backing track described as music from Catholic Mass.
“White Jesus, is that you? … Oh s–t,” Kanye joked before beginning his 2004 College Dropout single “Jesus Walks.” Later in the act, Kanye and the dancers were seen bowing as “Jesus” stood on a 60 feet high “mountaintop.” Kanye spent most of the concert rapping on top of the mountain top.
Kanye faced criticism about Yeezus, his latest studio album. Some of the controversial content includes “Black Skinhead,” the first single off the album, “New Slaves,” and “I Am A God.” Tour attendees posted photos and videos of the concert, and tour merchandise features the Confederate flag. Some called Kanye’s actions and the music blasphemous, but he had no problem addressing the critics.
However, Kanye has already canceled the Vancouver show, only the second date on the Yeezus Tour.
