While preparing for Elkins first court appearance on Monday (March 25), public defender Kevin Gough told reporters that the young man charged with murder “is absolutely, 1,000-percent not guilty.” The suspect’s aunt has also made claims that he was with her when the killing took place.
13-month-old Antonio Santiago was killed Thursday morning while in his stroller as his mother Sherry West walked him through the neighborhood. She alleges two boys confronted her and demanded money before opening fire.
West was shot in the leg as another bullet grazed her left ear. Santiago was shot in the face.
An unidentified 14-year-old boy who also faces a murder charge appeared in court on Monday.
