Check out the latest happenings around the music world…
- Beyonce‘s known for her polished and poised persona, but don’t get it twisted: the girl can get ratchet. Reports around the web suggest that the 31-year-old pop diva will release a new single with Lady Gaga centered on the hood theme. While just a rumor, Beyonce added fuel to the fire before the New Year with a photo of her wearing “ratchet” earrings– similar to those worn by Gaga in September. It’s public knowledge that the “Poker Face” singer had an unreleased song of the same title, but only time will tell if the track will make its debut.
- Beyonce’s other half is also getting back to the music for the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann film adaption of The Great Gatsby. Jay-Z‘s 2011 track “No Church in the Wild” with Kanye West was featured in the flick’s trailer, but Jeymes Samuel of the Bullitts says he and the rapper are working on an even bigger project. “Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby! It is too DOPE for words!” he tweeted. The film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Isla Fisher, Carey Mulligan and others will hit theaters May 10.
- Police say a paparazzo was struck by a car and killed after taking photos of Justin Bieber‘s Ferrari sports car in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Photographer Chris Guerra followed the 18-year-old singer after reportedly seeing him smoking marijuana, according to TMZ. Guerra died on Tuesday evening. Bieber, who was not in the car at the time, released the following statement: “While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim. Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves.” Authorities say no charges are expected against the motorist who hit the Guerra.
- Finally, Usher and Shakira have officially claimed their seats on season four of NBC’s The Voice and they’ve got the pictures to prove it. The pair was brought on in September to replace original coaches Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green while they take time off to focus on their upcoming albums. Usher and Shakira will join Adam Levine and Blake Shelton for the competition’s spring cycle. After the jump, check out the newest promo shots!
