Congratulations are in order for New York Knicks power forward Amar’e Stoudemire and fiancée Alexis Welch who tied the knot Wednesday night (Dec. 12) in a private ceremony on the roof of his New York apartment.
According to the NY Daily News, the intimate event was attended by only 12 guests– including the couple’s three children– to signify the special date: 12-12-12.
“They decided to do this because of the date, and they wanted to do something spiritual and private for themselves,” said an insider. The couple plan to throw a bigger wedding next year for friends, family and teammates.

Welch reportedly wore “a long, slim-fitting, custom-made wedding dress with no train” while Stoudemire stood in a Calvin Klein suit.
The 30-year-old baller quickly took to Twitter to show off the couple’s rings, designed by Shayan Afshar. He wrote, “12.12.12. now has a special & spiritual meaning for us…”
To round out the evening, Stoudemire and Welch attend the “12-12-12” benefit concert for superstorm Sandy at Madison Square Garden.
The two began dating in 2002 and got engaged on June 2 at the Le Meurice Hotel Belle Etoile in Paris, overlooking the Eiffel Tower.
