Her highness has spoken.
While making her media rounds for Lifetime’s premiere of Steel Magnolias, Queen Latifah recently sat down with Anderson Cooper to not only discuss the network’s remake, but also the ongoing spat between American Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.
“I would definitely not take sides in ignorance, but that’s really not about them. At the end of the day they are both blessed to be in the position that they are,” she politely stated. “It’s about giving a leg up to the new people who want to be a Nicki or be a Mariah.”
Yet Queen Latifah couldn’t leave the question open without inserting her own personal opinion.
She continued, “But Mariah? Come on now. We’re talking about a hundred million right there. You gotta respect your elders to a point. That’s a grand diva, but I love Nicki too.”
Over the weekend, AI‘s producers issued a statement to Access Hollywood calling most media reports “inaccurate.”
“This is one of the best, most passionate, dynamic and invested judging panels we’ve ever had. We love and support all of the judges and the fantastic work they are doing, and we can’t imagine a better group to find the next ‘American Idol’,” they said.
“Despite all the accusations and media speculation — much of which is inaccurate — production is going extremely well today and the judges are focused on finding the best talent here in Baton Rouge.”
