Five-time GRAMMY Award winner Mariah Carey will be joining the judging table for season 12 of American Idol, reports Entertainment Weekly. Carey will replace the seat formerly occupied by Jennifer Lopez.
“It’s gonna be so much fun working on [American Idol.] As a singer-songwriter, I’m excited to help find and nurture new talent,” she stated on Twitter.
Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said on Monday, “It’s the biggest recording artist that any of these [singing competition] shows have ever had.”
“It’s an artist many of these contestants have tried to emulate. [The deal] only concluded hours ago. Not being the only game in town we need to keep things fresh.”
And although hubby Nick Cannon previously believed Idol couldn’t afford his wife, Carey is looking at a pay check of nearly $18 million for one season. Not bad.
Over the weekend, Carey announced that she will be releasing a new single in August for her thirteenth studio album. “Triumphant” will feature Maybach Music Group’s Rick Ross and Meek Mill.
Welcome back Mimi!
