Attendees at Bonnaroo on Saturday night were in for an unexpected treat when The Roots’ Questlove brought out singer D’Angelo for his first live U.S. performance in over a decade.
“I’ve been waiting 12 years to say this,” said drummer Questlove before Saturday night’s “Superjam” at Bonnaroo Arts & Music Festival in Tennessee. “Ladies and gentleman: D’Angelo!”
With a nine-piece band, the R&B crooner hit the stage with a throwback setlist that included Jimi Hendrix’s “Have You Ever Been (to Electric Ladyland),” Band of Gypsy’s “Power of Soul,” Funkadelic’s “Hit It and Quit It,” the Beatles “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window” and Led Zeppelin’s “What Is And What Should Never Be.”
