Rumors surfaced Tuesday afternoon about the departure of Tia Mowry from BET’s hit series The Game. Unfortunately, those rumors have proved to be true.
Mowry, 33, confirmed via Twitter that she would be leaving the show to focus on other projects. She stated:
“Just wanted to let all my fans know that I will not be returning to The Game for season 6. It was an incredible run and I had lots of fun along the way. I am looking forward to my upcoming projects…the release of my book #OhBaby [today!], season 2 of @TiaTameraShow on @mystyle premiering in June, and my @ABCFamily movie coming out in December…more to come!” love u so much”
Tuesday night’s episode, presumably shot weeks ago, did not feature her character Melanie Barnett-Davis.
Mowry’s announcement comes as a surprise to many fans as the show has been picked up for a sixth season, with a reported 22 episodes.
Reports have also been circulating that Pooch Hall will not be returning; the 35-year-old actor plays Derwin Davis on the NAACP Image Award-winning series. Hall has confirmed his role on Showtime’s new drama Ray Donovan, but has said he is working with BET on a new contract to balance both jobs.
With Mowry out and the possibility of Hall, it may be time to retire the series.
