Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, one of reality television’s most hated couples, are flat broke. In a recent interview with the Daily Beast, Spencer shared that he’d gladly take an MTV producer up on an offer to star in “Jersey Shore” in exchange for a big check. After overspending on plastic surgery and high-end wardrobes, the couple has traded in their condo for eating tacos and burritos in Pratt’s parents’ beach house. That’s a far cry from their lives depicted on The Hills. My, how the mighty have fallen.
Like the Pratts, many other reality television celebrities-of-the-moment come into fame and new money, and live out their dreams in a matter of months (obviously with no accountant). Blogs report them partying and dropping millions of dollars on homes, cars and wardrobes daily. In late 2010, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star, Sheree Whitfield’s Aston Martin luxury car was repossessed (she denies the claims). The “Jersey Shore” cast negotiated a salary increase for the third season taped in Italy, totaling $100,000 per episode, just to party and hook up with each other onscreen, even amid enormous debt and pending lawsuits.
