Dana-Maxx: I always knew I wanted to be a fashion designer. When I was younger I had a store in my bedroom and my stuffed animals were my customers. I would come up with sketches for them and take orders – true story!
UPTOWN: What was your biggest inspiration/motivation when trying to pursue a career in fashion?
Dana-Maxx: My biggest motivation was and always will be within myself. The industry can be very tough, so it’s important to be secure within yourself and have a strong support system around you. I’ve always lived by the philosophy that you need to make things happen in life, not let them happen. So, I’ve worked very hard since day one, with the support of my family and friends, pursuing my dream and making it a formidable reality.
UPTOWN: Why was it so important for you to start your own clothing line?
Dana-Maxx: I grew up in a family of strong women, so starting my own business was inevitable. Since I was young, my parents instilled in me the importance of a woman making her own money and being able to stand on her two feet. It’s always been really important to me to be that kind of woman and make my parents proud.
UPTOWN: How would you describe your sense of style and how do you incorporate your personal style into your lines?
Dana-Maxx: My personal sense of style is chic, effortless and edgy. I enjoy the process of getting dressed and feeling good in what I wear and I definitely incorporate these aspects into my own line. Two questions that I always ask myself when I am designing are; how will a woman feel in this? And how will she look in this? The answer better be “very good” or else I won’t put my name on it.
